Malcolm Butler's interception still appears to be causing discord in Seattle

The effects of Malcolm Butler's Super Bowl-winning interception are still being felt in Seattle three years later.

The Seahawks fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell Wednesday, after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Though Seattle's offense enjoyed some success in the wake of Super Bowl XLIX, Bevell could seemingly never overcome the shame of calling for a slant pass on the one-yard line.

Last season, cornerback Richard Sherman screamed at the coaching staff after Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin on the one-yard line in a Thursday night game against the Rams. Later, Sherman said the play's success was irrelevant.

"We've already seen how that goes," he explained to reporters.

As our friend Seth Wickersham outlined in a feature story last year, the Seahawks –– and Sherman in particular –– could never get over their gut-wrenching Super Bowl loss. Bevell was likely dismissed because the Seahawks finished 15th in total offense this season and had an atrocious offensive line. But it's apparent his end was sealed three years ago. The Patriots' dominance knows no bounds.
