Don Orsillo is slated to return to Fenway Park for the first time since he was serenaded with two months of standing ovations on his way to sunny San Diego.
The beloved play-by-play man tweeted Monday he'll be in Boston this upcoming weekend for Red Sox-Yankees Saturday afternoon, calling the game for Fox Sports alongside A.J. Pierzynski and David Cone.
Next Weekend assigned to Boston and Fenway for @MLBONFOX Saturday with AJ Pierzynski and David Cone. @Yankees @RedSox Looking forward to seeing many friends. pic.twitter.com/nD5hIdl7FR
— Don Orsillo (@DonOrsillo) September 24, 2018Unfortunately for Orsillo, the penultimate game of the season will be meaningless for the hometown nine. The Red Sox have already clinched the division and will be in full resting mode. It's likely he'll see one of the funky lineups that Alex Cora ran out there in Cleveland, featuring Sam Travis and Blake Swihart at the outfield corner spots.
There's a chance the Yankees could be playing for something, however. They only a hold a 1.5-game lead over the A's for the top wild card spot, meaning they're in danger of traveling to the West Coast for the play-in game.
Update: Orsillo will also call the season finale on Sunday for TBS, which will be equally meaningless for the Red Sox.
Actually, let's make it the weekend in Boston. #MLBonTBS has picked their Sunday game and I will be staying. @Yankees @RedSox from Fenway with @RonDarlingJr. pic.twitter.com/cTzcbr39dZ
