Roseanne Barr's long history of incendiary remarks doesn't just include racism. The comedian has also peddled outrageous conspiracy theories, including one about the Boston Marathon bombings.
In an "open letter to Congress" posted on Barr's website, the comedian urges representatives to "stop the dictatorship initiated in the Executive Branch" under President Barack Obama. When discussing Obama's purported war against the 2nd Amendment, Barr says he's initiated false terror attacks, including the Marathon bombings.
"These acts include the attack on whistleblowers, contriving false flag terror attacks to remove the 2nd amendment (Boston Marathon; case in point), NSA Spying Scandal, and murdering innocent people with drones," Barr writes.
The post's URL indicates the letter was published Nov. 16, 2013, seven months after the bombings. They killed three people and wounded more than 260.
Barr's extensive track record of lunacy brings into question ABC's decision to put her sitcom back on the air, long before she called former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett an "ape." ABC announced Tuesday it is canceling "Roseanne," calling Barr's comment "abhorrent" and "inconsistent" with the network's values, which begs the question: is calling the Marathon bombings a hoax consistent with ABC's values? Or how about propagating a conspiracy theory about Democrats engaging in satanic child-sex trafficking rings? Or how about saying former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice has "swinging ape balls?" It's always interesting to see where the line is.
Red Sox chairman and "Roseanne" executive producer Tom Werner also weighed in Tuesday, saying he supports ABC's decision to discontinue "Roseanne."
"Our goal was to promote constructive discussion about the issues that divide us," Werner's statement reads. "It represented the work of hundreds of talented people. I hope the good work done is not totally eclipsed by these abhorrent and offensive comments, and that Roseanne seeks the help she so clearly needs."
Barr exhibited she needs help long before this latest tweet. Yet, ABC and Werner decided to go back into business with her. It blew up in their faces.
