One of the unsung heroes of the Red Sox' 2013 World Series team is hanging them up. Shortstop Stephen Drew decided to retire from baseball Tuesday, per the Washington Post's Chelsea James

Drew, who's stoic demeanor often invited scorn from Red Sox fans, slashed .253/.333/.443 with 13 home runs and 67 RBI in 124 games with Boston during its most recent championship season. His .777 OPS would've ranked second among American League shortstops if he had enough at-bats to qualify.

Left unsigned into Spring Training, Drew was downright dreadful when he returned in 2014. He hit .176 in 140 at-bats before getting shipped to the Yankees at the trade deadline, where he posted a paltry batting average of .150 in 140 at-bats.

Drew, 35, played 12 seasons in the Major Leagues with five teams. He played seven years in Arizona before finishing his career in Oakland, Boston, New York and Washington.

Stephen Drew's older brother, J.D., also failed to ingratiate himself with Red Sox fans. J.D. Drew hit 80 home runs in five seasons with the Red Sox and posted an .824 OPS. His highlight came when he belted a grand slam in Game 6 of the 2007 ALCS against the Indians, helping to force a Game 7.
