A TMZ offshoot called “The Blast” inserted itself into the middle of the Robert Kraft story when it alleged last week it was approached with a copy of his spa sex videotape. The Blast says it verified the tape and even described some of its contents, such as how Kraft is laying down on the massage table while he gets serviced.
The gossip website’s posts surely generated lots of clicks. But now the publication may have to explain itself in court.
A Florida judge said Tuesday he would allow the lawyers for Orchids of Asia spa owner Hua Zhang and therapist Lei Wang to subpoena The Blast in an effort to gather information about its alleged tipster, the Miami Herald reports. The attorneys for the women, both of whom are facing prostitution charges, contend the Jupiter Police Department or Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office are responsible for leaking the footage –– if The Blast did get approached.
One of Kraft’s attorneys filed a motion supporting the efforts.
Another Florida judge also ruled Tuesday footage of Kraft can’t be made public until a jury is seated or the case is settled through a plea agreement or dropped charges. Kraft’s lawyers have argued releasing the footage would obstruct his constitutional right to a fair trial.
While that’s good news for Kraft, he isn’t out of videotape purgatory yet. On Monday, there will be a hearing to determine whether the tapes featuring Kraft and the other johns will be suppressed in the case involving Zhang. She’s facing 26 charges for allegedly managing a widespread prostitution ring.
