Tom Brady selling Brookline home is definite sign he wants to leave Boston, but doesn't mean he wants to stop playing for Patriots

There are plenty of reasons to freak out about Tom Brady potentially leaving the Patriots, with his faux contract extension that guarantees his free agency next year at the top of the list. Brady and Gisele putting their Chestnut Hill estate on the market, however, is not one of those reasons.

NBC Sports Boston's Tom Curran and Phil Perry broke the story Tuesday about the Brady-Bundchen five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion being put up for sale. The Zillow listing, which highlights the pad's outdoor pool, recreation room, yoga studio, and –– you guessed it –– "outdoor organic herb and vegetable garden," says the sprawling estate can be purchased for the cool price of $39.5 million.

The news of Brady and Gisele trying to sell their Boston-based home couples with the recent report about the power couple shopping for residencies in Greenwich, Conn. and Alpine, N.J. They already own a $20 million condo in Manhattan's swanky Tribeca district.

It isn't unusual for the ultra-rich to routinely buy and sell property. Earlier this decade, Brady and Gisele built an estate in Los Angeles –– complete with a moat –– only to sell the home for $40 million in 2014 to Dr. Dre.

But it does seem like Brady and Gisele are looking to relocate to one of New York's palatial suburbs, considering their Boston home is for sale as well. Tom Brady, who's from the Bay Area, played his college ball at Michigan, and has international commercial ambitions, probably won't spend the rest of his waking days in sleepy Brookline. That shouldn't be surprising to anybody, and it isn't a death knell for his Patriots career. Though rent prices in Boston are exorbitant, it's perfectly feasible Brady could muster up enough cash to rent a lovely two-, three-, four-, or five-bedroom around these parts. He could live in the area during football season, while his family spends most of its time in Metro New York. This concept isn't unheard of.

Brady and Gisele apparently looking to move out of Boston is a sign his career here won't last forever. But it doesn't mean its end is imminent, either. Brady keeps saying he wants to play football until he's 45 years old, and presumably, he would like to keep playing for the Patriots. The real question is, following these most recent contract shenanigans: do the Patriots want to lock him up? So far, the answer has been "no.
