Some good news came to a Red Sox team that needed some on Thursday morning, with reliever Heath Hembree activated from the 10-day injury list while Trevor Kelley was optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Boston's bullpen struggles have been a major talking point all season but especially in recent weeks, and before Nathan Eovaldi is set to return and step in as the closer, Hembree can help bolster the bullpen before the All-Star break. Hembree has been one of the team's more reliable relievers this season, giving up eight earned runs in 28.2 innings this season, though after a tough start in April he's only given up one earned run in his last 20 appearances, an excellent stretch dating back to April 25.
Hembree was held out for a few days in mid-June after feeling some tightness in his forearm, and was eventually placed on the 10-day IL with a right elbow extensor strain on June 14.
