Continuing their minor league assignment and rehab stint respectively, Steven Wright and Tyler Thornburg each made another appearance in Pawtucket on Wednesday, with mixed results.
While Wright threw one scoreless inning in a 3-2 PawSox loss, Thornburg struggled again, taking the ball for the sixth with a lead and exiting after just two-thirds of an inning in which he gave up two hits, a walk and two runs to pick up a blown save.
Thornburg’s ERA in Pawtucket is now up to an even 9.00, even worse than the 7.71 mark he’d been sporting in Boston before he went on his rehab assignment.
Before Thornburg’s entrance, Darwinzon Hernandez had himself a solid start, giving up just a run and two hits in five innings. Hernandez is the Red Sox top pitching prospect, and will continue to be a candidate for spot starts in the majors if injuries continue to be an issue in coming weeks, with Nathan Eovaldi dealing with a setback in his recovery and Hector Velazquez headed back to the IL.
