The Patriots added another offensive lineman to their 2020 NFL Draft class with the selection of Justin Herron (6-3, 308) out of Wake Forest with the 195th overall pick.
Though Herron played left tackle for the Demon Deacons, he was announced as a guard, the position most draft scouts projected him to play at the NFL level.
Here are three quick thoughts.
--Herron suffered a torn ACL in the 2018 season opener that sidelined him for the entirety of that year. He returned to action to open the 2019 season, starting all 13 games he played at left tackle as a team captain. He earned third-team All-ACC honors. Overall Herron started all 51 games he played at Wake Forest, a school record, over five seasons from 2005-19.
--Herron was a three sport star at Bullis High School (Maryland), where he also played trumpet in the jazz band. He lettered in football, baseball and basketball.
--Herron comes from a basketball family, as his father (Reggie) and uncles (Larry and Keith) all played the sport at Villanova. Keith was a second-round pick in the 1978 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers and played five seasons in the league with the Hawks, Pistons and Cavaliers.
