Jerry Rice knows a little something about playing wide receiver in the NFL.

The former 49ers Hall of Famer is generally considered the best to ever play the position.

So when Rice assesses the talents of some of the top receivers playing the game today, people tend to listen.

On an appearance on Good Morning Football on NFL Network, Rice was asked which current receiver had the best footwork in the NFL. The answer is no surprise to Patriots fans, or Tom Brady.

Rice picked New England slot sensation Julian Edelman.

“You're not going to be able to cover him," Rice told GMF via NBCSportsBoston.com. "You can't do it. He's going to be able to get separation from you and make the catch."

Edelman has done that to the tune of 63 receptions this season, which leads the Patriots and ranks third in the NFL.

Rice, who certainly had a very different skill set and style of play, appreciates another aspect of Edelman’s game.

"What I like about him too is his physicality," Rice added. "He throws his body all over the field."

That’s never been more true than this season, when Edelman has battled through a chest/rib injury to still be able to pace an undermanned Patriots receiving corps.
