More than 300 prospects attend the NFL Scouting Combine each February.
A couple hundred more college players are also on the radar for teams across the league.
But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not all prospects are fits for all teams.
The Patriots notoriously have a rather small draft board.
So which players might make sense for a retooling New England squad that enters the 2020 NFL Draft with a dozen selections at the disposal of Bill Belichick and director of player personnel Nick Caserio?
Below is a list of guys who might just fit the Patriots needs and desires on defense.
Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama – Davis is a big guy (built like Richard Seymour) with big upside, but also the potential to fail to live up to his potential.
DaVon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State – Hamilton is a mid-round option with good hands and feet to solidify the middle of the front.
A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa – Not as explosive or athletic as his consecutive double-digit sack seasons might suggest, Epenesa has the all-around game to be a solid fit in New England.
Terrell Lewis, EDGE, Alabama – Lewis is more potential than proven production at this point and might be a Wild Card option among edge rushers with upside.
Jonathan Greenard, EDGE, Florida – A captain with proven production at two big-time programs, Greenard is physical and aggressive on the edge.
Jabari Zuniga, EDGE, Florida – Another Gator, this one fits Belichick's age-old desirables for outside linebackers in just about every way.
Zach Baun, DE/LB, Wisconsin – Baun had breakout production last season with versatility that has him being compared to Kyle Van Noy.
Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma – An impressive combination of size, speed and run-around playmaking ability.
Patrick Queen, LB, LSU – A modern, speed-based linebacker who certainly would add athleticism to the Patriots front.
Joshua Uche, EDGE, Michigan – Uche is a rising prospect as a 'tweener on the edge with proven pass rush ability and some power to play the run.
Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming – Wilson is a captain and tackle machine with a knack for interceptions coming from a lower level of competition.
Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama – McKinney is the kind of high IQ, reliable option you'd expect from Nick Saban's defense who could add sneaky-critical youthful potential to the Patriots back end.
Ashtyn Davis, S, California – A track star, Davis brings versatile speed-based play to the safety position.
Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois – Coming from a lower level of competition, Chinn is one of the more intriguing all-around athletes in the draft.
Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU – Cornerback isn't a huge need by any means, but Gladney is a four-year starter with high-end skills that any NFL team should covet even with height that's less than ideal.
