According to ESPN, the Patriots have cut a pair of players Monday. The moves creates the roster space for the expected signing of All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown that could become official at 4 p.m.
ESPN reports that New England has cut safety Obi Melifonwu and tight end Lance Kendricks, the latter of whom served a NFL suspension in Week 1 and therefore did not count on the 53-man roster.
The Patriots have waived S Obi Melifonwu and cut veteran TE Lance Kendricks, per source. Melifonwu's spot on the 53-man roster goes to Antonio Brown.

September 9, 2019 After the Melifonwu cut, the expected Brown signing will bring the Patriots back to 53 on the roster, including eight wide receivers: Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Demaryius Thomas, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski and special teams captain Matthew Slater.
