Gronk awkwardly loses title, reportedly leaves WWE

As he prepares to pursue another championship on the football field in Tampa Bay with Tom Brady's Buccaneers, former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski lost a title in the wrestling world Monday night.

In an awkward, pre-taped segment from his home in Foxborough, Mass., Gronkowski lost his 24/7 WWE title to R-Truth.

According to a report from Wrestling Inc., Gronkowski's loss on WWE's Monday Night Raw was his final act for the company after exercising a release clause in his wrestling contract as he returns to the NFL following a one-year retirement.

"While Gronkowski has no other obligations to WWE, he can't work for another wrestling company for a set period of time as part of the release clause," Wrestling Inc. wrote, though the site notes he could still "likely" make appearances for WWE.

Gronkowski won the 24/7 title as part of his role hosting WWE's WrestleMania 36 in April, which was a two-day, taped event in Orlando due to the coronavirus pandemic. Gronkowski actually took the title by pinning his longtime friend and wrestler Mojo Rawley.
