"Nope," Bruce Cassidy told NESN after the game when asked if he had an update on Chara's status. "He got hit in the face. It hurt. He got some work done, stitches, but wasn't able to play. Wanted to be there with his teammates. We'll see where it goes from there."
Cassidy added during his press conference that Chara had been medically advised not to play in the third, and that he doesn't know his status for Game 5. He said Chara would probably need some dental work in the near future.
Chara's only time touching the ice during the third period was during a TV timeout late in the final 20. He went up and down his own bench encouraging his teammates and tapping Tuukka Rask on the pads.
The Bruins have already been without Matt Grzelcyk -- another left-shot defenseman -- the last two-plus games after Oskar Sundqvist hit him in the head in Game 2. If Chara and Grzelcyk are both out for Game 5, it's possible the Bruins would turn to top prospect Urho Vaakanainen, who's also a left shot. The only other option would be putting in Steven Kampfer and moving one of their right-shot D to the left side.
The B's have two days off until they play Game 5 on Thursday night in Boston.
