FOXBORO -- Following a frustrating practice Wednesday, it was still clear the Patriots are had some difficulties getting things done correctly on Thursday as well.
The team ran two laps around the goal posts within just minutes of each other during 11-on-11 work following two straight false start penalties and then a fumble on a handoff between Tom Brady and Sony Michel.
"I mean, it's training camp, you know. It's not going to be where, anything you did last season, you've got to start it over and rebuild it and you know, we've got a lot to improve on, a lot of work we've got to do, clean up," said David Andrews. "A lot of times when you see the laps, you're hurting yourself. It's not really, the defense isn't causing problems, it's you. So you've got to clean it up, hold each other accountable, and just keep moving and improve."
Although it's only one week into training camp, Andrews did explain that the setbacks can be upsetting. But, it's important to just focus on what one is able to control.
"It's frustrating because you know you messed up. Everyone's out here getting paid, they're going to get there sometimes, you're going to get beat, that happens, that's this game, that's the league," he added. "But those are kind of things that we can control as a unit, whether whatever it is, it's kind of what you can control, and those are the kind of errors you don't want to make."
Despite getting frustrated in those moments, Andrews noted that it's important not to immediately block them out from memory. One needs to remember the mistakes in order to grow from them, and be better next time.
"You know, you don't want to forget about the bad. You want to remember that in a sense. You don't want to let that paralyze you, and the fear of messing up paralyze you. But remember what you did wrong and then correct it," he said. "But, you've got to go out there and play with kind of reckless abandon so maybe mentally, emotionally forget about it, but mentally know it's there and keep moving."
Andrews and the Patriots will hold one final practice at Gillette Stadium Friday before gearing up for joint practices in Detroit next week.
