While Enes Kanter and Tacko Fall have received the majority of the attention among the Celtics' new big men, there’s another post player Boston feels good about.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach, the “Celtics are high on Vincent Poirier,” noting his athleticism and rebounding abilities during play overseas. Boston signed the 6-foot-11, 25-year-old back on July 15, after he most recently played with Baskonia in Spain’s top league, Liga ACB.

Keith Smith of Celtics Blog also reported Boston is excited about Poirier’s abilities, based off comments from an anonymous Celtics executive.

“(Vincent) Poirier is a guy we’ve had eyes (on) for a while,” the Celtics executive said. “He was at Summer League a couple of years back and caught our eye with the way he moved for his size. He’s got the potential to be a big-time defender and rebounder.”

In the Euroleague last year, Poirier averaged 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game. Despite his success with Baskonia, he reportedly turned down more money in Europe to play in the NBA.

Although he will be battling against Kanter, Daniel Theis, and Robert Williams for playing time, Poirier has the opportunity carve out a role as one of the team's top defensive big men.

Celtics are high on Vincent Poirier. Talked to a couple people familiar with him. No. 1 thing that stood out: His athleticism. He led the Euroleague in rebounding. “That doesn’t happen by accident.” He passed up a bigger payday in Europe to come to the NBA.
