The Steelers are a mess, and to their troubles -- which include a tie against the Browns, a loss to the Chiefs, and a holdout by All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell -- they can now add wide receiver Antonio Brown.
The player widely considered the best receiver in football did not show up to the team's facility on Monday, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed. Brown appeared incensed after Sunday's 42-37 loss to the Chiefs. He caught nine passes for 67 yards, but was badly outperformed by fellow wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster (13-121-1) and tight end Jesse James (5-138-1).
Brown's absence from the facilities was originally reported by Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette before being confirmed by Tomlin on Tuesday.
It came just two days after a former Steelers staffer disparaged Brown on Twitter by noting that Ben Roethlisberger had made his career. "Trade me and let's find out," Brown responded.
It continues a disastrous few months for the Steelers, who lost to the Jaguars in the divisional round last year despite playing at home before failing to come to terms on a longterm deal with Bell, who refused to sign his franchise tender and remains a holdout.
Add Brown to this pile and it's a rough time to be a Steelers fan.
