As if it wasn't bad enough that the Red Sox choked away a 4-0 lead in a 6-4 loss to the Rays during Thursday's opener, the Yankees unleashed Giancarlo Stanton on the American League, and he did not disappoint.
Stanton homered in the first inning and again in the ninth to lift the Yankees to a 6-1 victory in Toronto in their opener.
The reigning National League MVP went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, batting third out of the DH spot. He launched an opposite field homer on the second pitch of his Yankees career in the first, and then pummeled one into the center field second deck in the ninth. The first homer had an exit velocity of over 117 mph -- the fastest opposite-field shot ever recorded by Statcast.
Not a bad start, unless you're a Red Sox fan. Watch and despair.
