According to a report from Yahoo Sports, a Celtics fan was banned from TD Garden for directing a racial slur at Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins during a January game in Boston.
Per Yahoo NBA insider Chris Haynes, during Golden State's 115-111 victory on Jan. 26 in Boston, a fan "muttered the N-word at DeMarcus Cousins." Haynes reports that Cousins notified Garden security and the fan received a ban from the Garden for the rest of this season, as well as all of next season.
This marks the second high-profile incident between a Boston fan and an African-American athlete in the last two years. In May of 2017, Orioles outfielder Adam Jones claimed a fan yelled a similar epithet at him from the Fenway Park bleachers. The Red Sox responded by launching an initiative with the NAACP to stamp out racism in our local ballparks and stadiums.
