
Despite an 8-5 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, Thursday night wasn’t a total disappointment for the Red Sox, as Mookie Betts hit for his first career cycle, becoming the 21st Red Sox player to do so.
The Boston leadoff man hit a single in the first inning, a triple in the second and a double in the fourth He then walked in the sixth before getting one last shot in the ninth, when he completed the cycle with his 27th home run of the season.
Betts is the first major league player to hit for a cycle during the 2018 season. He also joined Brock Holt and Leon Culberson as the only leadoff batters to hit for a cycle for the Red Sox.
