Seven members of the 2004 team that beat the St. Louis Cardinals for Boston's first World Series title in 86 years will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 2: David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, Kevin Millar, Tim Wakefield, Jason Varitek, Keith Foulke and Alan Embree.
A team executive told The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy, "We did not reach out to [Schilling], but it is not out of spite."
Schilling was a member of both the '04 and 2007 World Series teams in Boston. His clutch performances throughout the 2004 postseason, including pitching Game 6 of the American League Championship Series in Yankee Stadium after after having sutures placed in his ankle (7 IP, 1 ER), will forever be ingrained in Red Sox and baseball lore as the Bloody Sock game.
Apparently that wasn't enough to earn Schilling an invite on Wednesday. He has become a right-wing talk radio host in recent years.
