Alex Rodriguez had an interesting revelation during the broadcast of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball this week, saying he wishes he had signed with the Mets during the 2000-01 offseason.

"I thought I would make great concessions to go play for the Mets," Rodriguez said. "I thought it was a great story for baseball."

Rodriguez has been vocal about his love for the Mets and said he was a big Keith Hernandez fan growing up. Ultimately, he signed a 10-year, $252 million contract with the Rangers before going on to join the Yankees in 2004.

Rodriguez said he wishes he had been more involved with negotiations between the Mets and his agent, Scott Boras. Boras reportedly gave the Mets a list of demands, a luxury box, private jet, Shea Stadium office, a marketing staff and a merchandise tent at spring training, before they gave his client a contract.

"I would just say this: If I was to do it again, I would just take control of my career a lot more," Rodriguez said.

After hearing this, Bobby Valentine, the manager of the Mets at that time, chimed in on Twitter.

“I always wanted ARod to be a Met.  Wow. What a difference,” he posted.
