-- The Redskins released a statement on Thursday asking for privacy for Alex Smith as he battles a setback after breaking his leg in a game last month.

“On behalf of Alex Smith, we appreciate all of the concerns and prayers over the injury he incurred on November 18th against the Houston Texans. Although this is a serious injury, Alex and his family remain strong. We would ask that everyone please honor the Smith family's request for privacy at this time,” the statement reads.

It was reported on Thursday Smith has developed an infection related to the surgery he underwent for the broken leg.

The original timeline for Smith's recovery was 8-10 months but it seems it will now take longer. His career, as well as future fully-functional use of his leg, are in jeopardy.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “It’s night and day. Huge difference. Coach [Moses> Cabrera and the strength staff have been amazing and patient with me, helped me out through my injuries. The training staff, as well, bring me along where I’m safe and mobile. I think I’m as good as I’ve been.” -- Josh Gordon, on how his conditioning has changed since he first joined the Patriots
