-- Sean Newcomb became the latest pitcher to apologize for offensive tweets he posted as a teenager just minutes after almost throwing a no-hitter on Sunday.
The Braves pitcher called the tweets from 2011 and 2012 "some stupid stuff” and said he meant nothing by them.
"I just wanted to apologize for any insensitive material. It was a long time ago, six or seven years ago, saying some stupid stuff with friends,” he said. "I know I've grown a lot since then. I didn't mean anything by it. It was just something stupid I did a long time ago, and I didn't mean anything by it, for sure.”
One tweet included a racial epithet that was part of a rap lyric and others contained gay slurs.
"Such inappropriate comments have no place in our game,” MLB said in a statement. “We are aware of this serious issue. Billy Bean (MLB's vice president for social responsibility and inclusion) will meet with Mr. Newcomb this week, and we will identify an appropriate course of diversity training in the Atlanta community.”
Newcomb said he had forgotten about the tweets until they resurfaced after the game on Sunday and it was his idea to directly address it with the media.
"This is something obviously that can't be happening,'' he said. "I feel bad about it. I don't mean to offend anybody. It was six, seven years ago. I didn't mean anything by it, and I definitely regret it, for sure.''
-- LaVar has been a grandfather for only a little under a week and he’s already looking to make a profit off of his granddaughter.
Lonzo Ball and Denise Garcia welcomed their first child, Zoey Christina Ball, last week and she has inspired the “Baby Baller Brand” line of baby clothes, according to LaVar.
“As soon as she touched down she’s a worker now,” LaVar said of Zoey.
“I’m only a grandpa when I’m in Lonzo’s house holding his daughter,” he added. “I’m the Big Baller CEO in the mix.”
Lonzo announced the July 22 birth of his daughter with a tweet reading “7.22.18 #ZCB.
