Urban Meyer has been placed on administrative leave by Ohio State as the school has opened an investigation into his former wide receiver coach’s domestic violence allegations.
Meyer fired coach Zach Smith last week amid allegations Smith assaulted his then-wife, Courtney, multiple times over a six-year span dating back to Smith’s time on Meyer’s coaching staff in Florida.
The question now is how much Meyer knew.
The team’s offensive coordinator, Ryan Day, will serve as acting head coach.
Meyer also released a statement of his own.
“(AD) Gene (Smith) and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion,” the statement reads. “This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter.”
