Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano will be suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a banned substance, it was announced Tuesday.

Cano tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic, which violates MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

He released a statement on the suspension shortly after it was announced:

The 35-year-old was placed on the disabled list on Monday after suffering a fractured fifth metacarpal in his right hand when he hit by a pitch on Sunday. He was scheduled to see a specialist in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The suspension will cost Cano nearly $12 million.
