Clay Buchholz has been released from his minor-league contract with the Royals, the team announced Tuesday.
The right-hander signed the deal with Kansas City in March and had the choice to opt out if he wasn’t called up to the majors by May 1.
He was not called up and now he’s out.
The former Red Sox pitcher was 1-0 and earned a 1.12 ERA in three starts in the minors this season.
