-- Joe Namath appeared on Howard Stern’s Stern Show on Monday and had some high praise for Tom Brady.
When Stern remarked on how Brady has been able to stay healthy for so long, Namath called the Patriots quarterback “the best.”
“Tom is the best,” Namath said. “I’ve been asked that question for many years. Johnny U. (Unitas) was my hero, Otto Graham was great, Slingin’ Sammy Baugh, I go back, these guys are great. But meantime, Tom has been challenged more in recent history certainly with huge games than anyone I can recollect and he’s stepped up every time.”
“I would have to say he’s the best at answering the challenge there ever was, yes,” Namath said. “I have not seen anybody have that many big games and answer the challenge as well as he has.”
-- The Mets fined manager Mickey Callaway and pitcher Jason Vargas after their run-in with Newsday reporter Tim Healey on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the clubhouse at Wrigley Field after the Mets’ 5-3 loss to the Cubs after Healey, a Boston University alum, said “see you tomorrow” to Callaway and Callaway lost it on him.
"In my meeting with Tim, I apologized for my reaction," Callaway said. "I regret it. I regret the distraction that it's caused to the team.... It's something I'm not proud of. I'm not proud of the distraction. I'm not proud of what I did to Tim. For that, I'm definitely sorry."
Vargas also issued a statement, saying, "I think it's unfortunate for all parties, an unfortunate distraction.”
