-- The Lions announced on Tuesday Matt Patricia will return as the team's coach for the 2020 season.

The team also announced it will stick with general manager Bob Quinn.

Lions owner Martha Ford made it clear, however, she expects the team to improve under this continued leadership.

"We expect to be a playoff contender and those are our expectations," Ford said. "Which we've expressed to both Bob and to Matt."

"I appreciate Mrs. Ford and her family so much and (team president) Rod (Wood) and Bob and everything that we're trying to do here and what we're trying to accomplish, where we're trying to lead this organization," Patricia said. "It's a process that we're trying to go through to get the team to a highly competitive level that can sustain and be consistent and handle the ebbs and flows of an NFL season ... It's something that we're trying to lay a foundation for. I think that we've seen some strides that we've made with the team this year. We obviously need to improve and build upon that going forward."

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "You don't always want to do it that way, but sometimes it's best to do things that way. That's good for everybody. You want everybody out there as healthy as they can be. That's ultimately the goal. It's not always that way, and certainly, that's a better scenario than having just two quarterbacks." -- Bill Belichick, on Jarrett Stidham and Cody Kessler getting some practice time in to give Tom Brady some rest
