Mike Trout, Angels reportedly finalizing largest deal in sports history

Bryce Harper's record deal didn't hold the title for long. ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting that Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels are finalizing a 12-year contract extension worth more than $430 million, which would be the largest contract in the history of professional sports.

Trout, 27, is a two-time American League MVP and had 39 home runs, 79 RBIs and a 1.088 OPS in 140 games last season. He finished second in the MVP voting to Mookie Betts, marking the fourth time he's been the MVP runner-up. The superstar center fielder was set to become a free agent in 2020, but will now be locked up through 2030.

While Trout has cemented himself as a year-in, year-out top-two player in baseball, he has made the playoffs just once in his eight years with the Angels, back in 2014 when they got swept by the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS.
