Coming off Star Wars Day then Cinco de Mayo, this quarantine Hump Day needs a little extra something. Otherwise, it's just a Wednesday. Where you can't really go anywhere. And you're legally required to wear a mask indoors or anywhere you can't socially distance. And tomorrow is NFL Schedule Day, which is like new comics day for football fans. Yeesh...let's just power through today the best we can. They can't all be gems, right?
BROADCAST HIGHLIGHT
BASEBALL - 2004 Red Sox Postseason Encore World Series Game 2: Red Sox vs. St. Louis Cardinals, NESN, 8:30 p.m.
With another sunny May day in the books, this hopefully helps fill that baseball hole in your heart (Spoiler Alert: They swept the Cardinals)
FOOTBALL - Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys (From 11/10/19), NFL Network, 8 p.m.
Honestly, it's just a good football game if you want to watch pro football.
MANNING VS. BRADY CONTINUES
The greatest rivalry - well, lopsided rivalry, considering it was one Brady versus two Mannings for nearly two decades - continues. Sort of. Brady, who dueled famously with Peyton and Eli Manning, in regular and postseason, has moved on to his second team, like Peyton (Eli went box-to-wire with the Giants and said it was important to him). And in a recent interview Eli, who got the best of Brady in a few big games, allegedly, said he thought Warm Weather Tom might have some growing pains and transition troubles in Tompa Bay. Given the talent Brady is surrounded by, and The Gronk he brought with him, we're all thinking TB12 is ticketed for instant success. But The Other Manning thinks social distancing may lead to some victory distancing, if you know what I mean. Classic Manning, always trying to stick it to The GOAT.

— Tyler Sullivan (@TylerSully) May 5, 2020BTW, I know we've spoken, well, not ill of Brady, but how his Tampa lifestyle wasn't sitting so well in rainy New England during COVID-19. And if we can't be honest in the safe space of the Morning Mashup then where can we? That said, it's been nice to see him talking up his former teammates, who are now the future hopes of the Patriots, on social media. Like Jarrett Stidham's Star Wars Day post. Even Jakobi Meyers on IG, a player Brady seemed to clash to have difficulty connecting with at times in 2019. Now there's the Tom we know and love. OK fine, of course we love this Tom, too. BTW - is it us or has Brady been hitting the weights this offseason?

Ageless eternal gridiron warrior Frank Gore (whose pro stats are awesome) signed a one year deal with the New York Jets Tuesday. Gore can still bulldoze with the rock, but he's also closer to AARP than NCAA in age. The deal must be about his veteran leadership and relationship with Adam Gase, because, umm, he's OLD.
Frank Gore: the only NFL player to play through both The Spanish Flu and COVID-19 outbreaks. Much respect. https://t.co/XHY6n3pwbe
— Fitzy (@FitzyGFY) May 5, 2020Another day, another someone doubting the 2020 Patriots. This time it's the mercurial, critical Colin Cowherd, whose hot takes are only dwarfed by the size of his mic and his desk. Cowherd picks the final standings of the AFC East in 2020, and you're not gonna like it, Pats fans.

The success of ESPN's "The Last Dance" has inspired a lot of storytelling and yarn spinning about the hey-day of MJ and co. And this gem from Ahmad Rashad kinda encapsulates the competitive spirit of Michael Jordan, and his personal rivalries wiht the greats, perfectly.

— Ahmad Rashad (@NBATVAhmad) May 5, 2020QUOTE OF THE DAY
"And all this negativity that's in this town sucks." - Former Celtics coach Rick Pitino, who became the C's coach on this day 23 years ago today. I wonder how he'd feel coaching in the Garden after twelve duck boat parades this century?
