Former Celtics center Al Horford was officially introduced as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. Horford’s run in Boston ended after he didn’t pick up his option for 2019-20, then proceeded to look at opportunities elsewhere. The Celtics’ rival came knocking and signed Horford to a four-year, $109 million deal, in which $97 million is guaranteed.
During his introductory press conference, Horford explained opting out of Boston wasn’t easy, though his decision to play in Philly was.
“When I decided to opt-out, it wasn’t an easy decision. But I did it,”
he said. “I felt like there was going to be a lot of options for me. When June 30 came around, things escalated very, very quickly. There were multiple teams. A lot of strong interest. I had to make what was the best decision for me. When Elton (Brand) called and spoke with my agent, he laid down his offer. I was very surprised that there was that strong (of an) interest for me being here. It made the decision very easy. It was very easy and I’m just excited to be a part of this.”
