The Grizzlies are on the outside looking in. There are seven teams below them in the NBA standings, which would give them six percent lottery odds if the season were to end today.
Of course, Memphis could slide into the top-six teams via the lottery, but the odds aren’t exactly in favor of that.
As teams like the Knicks, Cavs and Warriors continue to get worse, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson are helping the Grizzlies contend almost every night.
The manner in which they lost to the Spurs on Monday was a surprise — San Antonio blew Memphis out — but the two teams are in similar positions at this point in the season, shockingly.
Up next for Memphis: Oklahoma City (12/26), Denver (12/28) and Charlotte (12/29).
