Mookie Betts joined WEEI.com’s 5 Out to talk about the sport he’s loved since he was a kid. Basketball.
While he didn’t have a specific NBA team he followed growing up, Betts does get to his share of Celtics games now. After a disappointing 2018-19, the 2018 AL MVP likes where Boston’s basketball team stands — even though Kyrie Irving is “pretty irreplaceable.”
So while Betts has faith in Kemba Walker taking over as point guard and expects Jayson Tatum to do well, he does feel the C’s have one unknown.
Jaylen Brown.
“He’s stupid athletic,” Betts said on 5 Out. “He’s a good guy, great player, but I think we got to figure out what kind of player he is. I think he has to figure out what kind of player he is first. He can shoot it, but he doesn’t shoot it well enough to say, ‘OK, he’s a three-point shooter that plays D.’ … I don’t know what spot (he’s best). And I think if you get guys to a certain spot (on the floor), more than likely, they’re going to score.”
