The first four players the Celtics were linked to leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline — Detroit's Andre Drummond, Washington's Davis Bertans, Oklahoma City's Danilo Gallinari and Clint Capela, who has been traded from Houston to Atlanta — all made sense in some capacity.
But now Boston has been linked to ex-Celtic Evan Turner, who was just moved to the Timberwolves in the four-team deal that included Capela.
According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, Turner is expected to get a buyout and the Celtics "are expected to be among teams interested him."
Turner is switchable on the defensive end and knows Brad Stevens' system. But the Celtics need more length if they aren't adding someone who will provide an offensive boost off the bench.
Speaking of his offense, Turner doesn't add much. Most importantly, he isn't a 3-point shooter. Unless Stevens, all of a sudden, feels the Celtics need a mid-range shooter who can help attack zone defenses — something Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker can all do — Turner not what Boston needs off the bench.
As much as Stevens expressed on Wednesday that he doesn't expect the Celtics to make a big move, Turner only makes sense if he's signing on the veteran's minimum, there are almost no other viable options in the buyout market, and the Celtics want to move on from Vincent Poirier or someone else.
