Dustin Pedroia began his rehab with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday and started in all three games against the Gwinnett Stripers (Braves). He started at second base on Friday and was the designated hitter on Saturday and Sunday. He didn’t have to make a defensive play before Josh Tobias entered the game as his replacement in the seventh inning, but Pedroia did score from first on a Sam Travis double to center field in the third.
On the weekend, Pedroia went 2-for-11 with two strikeouts. Both of his hits were singles.
Nothing but Hart
Left-handed starting pitcher Kyle Hart continues to dominate the opposition for Double-A Portland. Although his ERA bumped to 2.77 from 2.59 after Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies, duh), Hart had himself another strong start. He lasted seven innings, as he did in his previous outing, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Hart also struck out five.
In addition to his 2.77 ERA, Hart has struck out 54 in 48 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .203 batting average and posting a 1.03 WHIP.
