Jarren Duran saw his hitting streak end at 16 games after going 0-for-3 in Class A Advanced Salem’s 17-3 loss to the Winston-Salem Dash (White Sox). He followed that up with a 0-for-5 performance in Sunday’s 8-5 loss.

Yet, Duran is still hitting .403 on the season with a 1.007 OPS.

Prior to the hitting streak, the 22-year-old outfielder was hitting .378 on the year. Sixteen games later, Duran’s average skyrocketed to .422. He went 31-for-62 (.500) during the streak, with eight doubles, eight RBI and a home run.

Duran remains the hottest hitter in the organization, and whether he finishes the month of May with an average of .400-plus or on the higher end of .300, it seems like he’s ready for a new challenge with Double-A Portland.

Ward extends scoreless streak

Thad Ward tossed his third start in a row of seven-plus shutout innings as part of Class A Greenville’s 4-0 win over the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants) on Saturday. Throughout his 21 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, Ward has 20 strikeouts and only two walks. Since walking five on May 3, the 22-year-old right-hander has walked three in 26 1/3 innings. Prior to the scoreless streak, Ward’s ERA was 3.50. It’s now 2.20.
