After working through April with one bad outing that ballooned his ERA to 4.22, Jenrry Mejia has not found success as frequently in May with Triple-A Pawtucket.
The reliever made his 10th appearance of the month on Thursday, striking out all three hitters he faced in Pawtucket’s 10-8 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees). It’s his sixth scoreless outing in May. Mejia surrendered a run in each of his two previous outings and has given up two runs on two occasions this month (5/4 and 5/11).
Through 20 appearances with the PawSox this season, Mejia has a 4.71 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, 20 strikeouts through 21 innings and opponents are hitting .250 against him.
Feltman recovering from rough patch
Durbin Feltman gave up four runs in back-to-back outings at the start of May for Double-A Portland. He pitched a combined two innings over the course of those appearances, in which he gave up a total of five walks and five hits, which included a home run. The 22-year-old reliever also had one strikeout between those two games despite being good for one strikeout per inning on average this season (18 in 17 1/3 innings).
Since the second four-run outing, Feltman has turned a corner. He’s pitched 8 1/3 innings over six appearances and only allowed one run to score. Feltman held opponents hitless in four of the six outings and didn’t allow a walk in three of those four. Feltman also has eight strikeouts over the course of this stretch.
