April was not kind to Red Sox 2018 first-round draft pick Triston Casas. In his first full go-around with Class A Greenville, Casas found himself in what was essentially a month-long slump. The left-hand hitting corner infielder hit .208 in April with a lowly .648 OPS. Of his sixteen hits, six were doubles and two were home runs. He also had 31 strikeouts in 22 games
Needless to say, something had to change for Casas. Turns out, the conclusion of April and start of May might have been enough. (Or the fact the pitching he’s facing with the Drive is a step up from what he saw in only two games at the Rookie Ball level in 2018, and it took him some time to adjust. That seems more logical than a change in months on a calendar.)
Regardless of the reason, Casas has turned things around completely. He’s hitting .364 with a 1.349 OPS. Of Casas’ eight hits in his six games, three are doubles and three are home runs. Furthermore, he only has three strikeouts.
Six games do not make a month, but his home run total already surpassing April’s and his plummeting strikeout rate do make seem Casas found something crucial in the course of making adjustments.
