While the Boston Red Sox keep looking for consistent pieces to add to the bullpen, Trevor Kelley continues to make his case as an option. The right-hander dropped his season ERA to 1.10 after his one-inning save in Triple-A Pawtucket’s 10-8 win over the Louisville Bats (Reds) on Thursday.

In his last 10 games, Kelley has a 0.63 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. He also has a 1.16 WHIP on the year, and opponents are hitting .217 against him.

Kelley's case goes beyond his efficiency this season. He would also provide a different look out of the Red Sox bullpen. His delivery is similar to two-time MLB All-Star and 13-year veteran Pat Neshek, who is currently with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jenrry Mejia helped set up Kelley’s save by pitching a scoreless eighth inning. He struck out one and walked one. Mejia has logged scoreless outings in back-to-back appearances. However, his season ERA is 6.14. As much as ERA isn’t the end-all, be-all statistic for relievers, it’s impossible to ignore when it’s as high as Mejia’s. Furthermore, opponents are hitting .279 against him in 2019.
