Red Sox Farm Report: Triston Casas hits first professional home run

It took a few games, but Triston Casas finally has his first home run as a professional baseball player, launching the Greenville Drive’s first of 2019 in Wednesday night’s 9-8 win. The Red Sox 2018 first round pick drilled the solo shot 418 feet as part of the Drive’s late surge in the comeback victory.

The home run is Casas’ second extra-base hit of the season, but only his third hit overall. A top-10 Red Sox prospect, according to MLB.com, Casas is only 3-for-19 (.158) to start the year with five walks and 10 strikeouts. Maybe this home run nudges him in the right direction.

 

Jarren Duran riding a six-game hitting streak

Another Red Sox top-10 prospect is on a roll with Single-A Salem to start the year. Outfielder Jarren Duran is hitting .458 (11-for-24) with a double and a triple.

Duran isn’t a big home run hitter (only three in 67 games last year), but he does have himself a set of wheels. The 22-year-old hit 11 triples last season and had 24 stolen bases. He also hit .357 with a .910 OPS in 2018.

 

PawSox to hand out World Series rings in home opener

Tim Tebow will not be the main attraction when the Pawtucket Red Sox host the Syracuse Mets in their 2019 home opener at McCoy Stadium on Thursday.

Sandy Leon, Sam Travis and Bobby Poyner will all receive their 2018 World Series rings.

The fourth and final member of the 2019 PawSox roster to get a ring will be Tony Renda, thus proving WEEI.com’s own Rob Bradford’s hot take to be more of a well thought out prediction (or just a lucky guess): Tony Renda will have more World Series rings than Major League at-bats after the 2018 season. Renda only appeared in one game for the Red Sox, entering as a pinch runner, eventually scoring the game-winning run against the Yankees on August 5.

Also, Patriots special teamer Matthew Slater will be on hand for the ceremony because you apparently can’t have a ring ceremony without a New England Patriot present.
