After going 1-for-12 to start June, Triston Casas put together a pair of strong performances at the plate. The Red Sox 2018 first round draft pick has gone 2-for-4 in back-to-back games. Casas had a pair of singles in Wednesday’s 5-4 loss to the Lexington Legends (Royals), having laced a double and a triple the night before. The triple is Casas’ first of his professional career, and the double is No. 14.
Over his last 10 games, Casas is hitting .278 with three home runs. Though, he has struck out 12 times (versus his 10 hits) during this 36-at-bat span.
Hernandez hanging over .300
Like Casas, Marco Hernandez recently went through a 1-for-12 stretch and, strangely enough, is also hitting .278 in his last 10 games. Hernandez busted out of the skid in Triple-A Pawtucket’s 13-2 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies) on Wednesday with a 2-for-5 night to bring his average in 19 games with the PawSox to .313. He also had a double and knocked in two runs.
Hernandez’s struggles throughout his rehab have primarily been in the field, but he played an errorless game on Wednesday, spending time between second base and shortstop.
Duran heat check
Jarren Duran had his first multi-hit game (2-for-5) for Double-A Portland in the 6-0 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants) on Wednesday. The rising center fielder also hit his first double for the Sea Dogs.
