Report: NBA scouts feel Tremont Waters is NBA-ready

Tremont Waters has dominated the G League so far this season. Naturally, he was named the first G League Player of the Month of 2019-20 as a result.

In his one game with the Celtics this season, Waters turned heads by showing off his playmaking ability. He had three assists, two blocked shots, two rebounds and one steal in his seven-point, 20-minute performance.

It turns out other teams have taken notice.

From his conversations with executives and scouts at the recent G League Winter Showcase, Keith Smith of RealGM was told Waters should be "an NBA backup (point guard) right now."

Also, teams would ask about the rookie's availability, "but Boston wouldn't listen."

"I missed on him. Big time," a scout told Smith. "Thought was too small for our league. But he's tough and fast. I don't know what he'll be beyond it, but he's an NBA backup point guard at least. And that's valuable because everyone plays three (point guards) a night now."
