Yesterday, I threw out some bargain targets at receiver and running back. Today I want to talk about how we can attack the tight end position. It's a fairly simple approach that I'll break down into three primary groupings.
For my take on every draftable player in this year's pool, just hit my free site, rotobahn.com and download a free cheat sheet.
Tier One, the Elites
Travis Kelce, Chiefs
George Kittle, 49ers
Zach Ertz, Eagles
I'm not looking to attack this tier unless one of them falls to me. The exception to this would be if my league uses TE-premium scoring or has very deep rosters with multiple flex spots. If I'm targeting this tier, I like Kelce anywhere in round two. Kittle becomes viable near the end of round two and Ertz just a few spots after Kittle.
Tier Two, the Future Elites
O.J. Howard, Bucs
Evan Engram, Giants
Hunter Henry, Chargers
This is my tier. I like trying to add any of these ascending talents in the fifth round, and, if they are all still on the board, I will often try and nab one in the sixth. To me, for 2019, this tier is the best value proposition at the position.
Everybody Else
So, what do we do if we miss out on the elite options? Here's where I like to cobble. I'll take a dependable vet and pair him with a younger player with some potential. Combos I've pulled off and like include:
Kyle Rudolph & T.J. Hockenson
Dallas Goedert & Greg Olsen
Ian Thomas & Delanie Walker
Tyler Eifert & Hockenson
There are a lot of ways you do this, but conceptually, what you want is an asset you can play Week 1 and another that should bloom over the early weeks and become more valuable as the year wears on.
Good luck in your drafts!
