As we approach the biggest drafting weekend of the fantasy football season, I thought it would be a good time to look at some values we can target in drafts. In this post, we'll look at my three favorite receivers who can be had in the mid-to-late portions of your drafts. I will be back tomorrow with some value targets at running back. You can access all of my rankings for free at rotobahn.com. You'll find downloadable cheat sheets there as well.
All of the ADP used is sourced from FantasyFootballCalculator.com.
Curtis Samuel, Panthers, WR35, 84 overall
Samuel has been one of my targets throughout the summer as he's risen up a lot of draft boards. As of now, he's still a solid value as your WR3 and he has the kind of talent to become a WR2 if things work out. D.J. Moore is generally viewed as the team's lead receiver, but don't count Samuel out. The 2017 second round pick is a game-breaker with cat-like quickness combined with world class speed. He's a legitimate breakout candidate this season.
Sammy Watkins, Chiefs, WR37, 93 overall
Am I happy if I can land Pat Mahomes second receiver with my eighth or ninth round selection? Damn straight. Watkins is now in year two in Andy Reid's scheme and he's 100 percent healthy for a change. This is a no-brainer. We used to clutch our pearls wondering if Sammy could stay healthy all year, but this late in a draft, that risk is baked right into the price you are paying. He's a value who can drastically outperform his draft slot.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Packers, WR40, 101 overall
MVS, as he's known in fantasyland, will be Aaron Rodgers' number two receiver this season but he's being priced more like the third option in drafts. This guy is a big play waiting to happen. He'll be matched up with mostly second cornerbacks and Aaron Rodger is a quarterback looking for places to throw the football. There's a lot of upside potential here and you can usually get him at the cost of a WR4 and sometimes as a WR5.
