Help is on the way, but it likely won't be arriving by Opening Day.

Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke announced Friday that both Eduardo Rodriguez and Darwinzon Hernandez were in Boston and were hopeful to join the team for works out shortly. The pair were two of four Red Sox players who tested positive for COVID-19, joining Bobby Dalbec (who is back with the team) and Josh Taylor.

With one week to go until the season opener against Baltimore at Fenway Park, it is unlikely either would be ready for action when the season starts. Rodriguez, Hernandez and Taylor are all on the 10-day injured list.

With Rodriguez's status uncertain, it appears as though Nathan Eovaldi will be getting the Opening Day nod for the Red Sox.

As for lefties in the bullpen who can make up for the absence of Hernandez and Taylor, the Red Sox have Josh Osich, Matt Hall and Jeffrey Springs all on the 40-man roster.

In a Zoom call with the media prior to Roenicke, Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom admitted the starting rotation "is definitely more unsettled than you would want to see in a vacuum."

"We really need to see him throw. So when we get him out on the field, we'll have him throw a bullpen. The information Eddie has given to us is that he has still been throwing quite a bit. Eddie, we know, has been throwing it. We'll get a read, see where he's at." - Ron on ERod.
