The pregame was almost as eagerly anticipated as the game that followed.
After an Opening Night which featured the likes of Mookie Betts taking a knee for the National Anthem, many were wondering how the Red Sox were going to approach the ceremony. About 7:15 p.m. Friday we found out.
After both the Red Sox and Orioles were introduced in front of an empty ballpark, the teams held the black ribbon which was present for all openers throughout baseball. During a video and moment of silence honoring the Black Lives Matter movement, the entire Baltimore club took a knee along the third base line. On the other side, Jackie Bradley Jr., Alex Verdugo and Michael Chavis joined coaches Tom Goodwin, Carlos Febles and Mani Martinez in kneeling.

July 24, 2020 During the National Anthem, which was sung by Springfield native Michelle Brooks-Thompson, the Orioles stood and linked arms. All the Red Sox who were kneeling remained in the same position with the exception of Chavis, who stood, putting his hand on Bradley Jr.'s shoulder.
