Jonathan Lucroy was one of the best stories in both Red Sox spring trainings. Now he has reportedly been cut.

According to Chad Jennings, the catcher has been let go by the Sox to make room for pitcher Chris Mazza on the team's 30-man roster. The move puts the Red Sox' 40-man roster at 39 players.

Lucroy, whose comeback from longtime physical issues were the talk of camp, only appeared in two innings for the Red Sox, coming in during the Opening Day win over the Orioles. With the emergence of backup Kevin Plawecki, the 34-year-old became expendable.

Mazza's major-league experience amounts to nine games with the Mets in 2019, giving up 10 runs on 21 hits over 16 1/3 innings.
