While the Red Sox' first pick of infielder Nick Yorke was scrutinized by some, considering the selection a reach, there were few debating the value of their third-round selection.
With the 89th overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, the Sox selected high school third baseman Blaze Jordan.
The DeSoto Central (MS) High product has been committed to play at Mississippi State since 8th-grade, having hit a 395-foot home run in a national competition at the Ballpark in Arlington at just 11 years old. Last summer Jordan won the Home Run Derby for high schoolers at All-Star Weekend in Cleveland.
Jordan was ranked as the No. 42 overall prospect by MLB.com coming into the Draft.
