Chaim Bloom's first acquisition as an executive with the Red Sox is now gone.
The Sox' Chief Baseball Officer swung a deal just before the trade deadline with the Cubs, sending lefty reliever Josh Osich to Chicago in exchange for a player to be named later. The likely reason for the unnamed player is that any piece of a formal piece of a trade during the 2020 season needs to be on the team's 60-man player pool.
The 31-year-old Osich has two more years of arbitration eligibility left.
True to form for the majority of his career, the southpaw did a good job getting lefty hitters out in his 13 appearances this season, holding that side to a .231 batting average. Right-handed hitters, however, were another story, with righties carrying a .912 OPS against Osich.
It was the second lefty reliever acquired by the Cubs Monday, having already struck a deal with Arizona for Andrew Chafin.
